CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – City Manager Sam Sanders said there needs to be a regional effort to house the unhoused in our area, but the only locality expressing a desire to help the city is Albemarle County. While laying out his action plan, he noted Charlottesville is not going to get the support from outer counties. In fact, Mayor Lloyd Snook told Morning News we have people coming to Charlottesville because they are being treated inhospitably in their own home counties.

Snook said he was talking to a public official from Orange County last week who told him their county position is to be inhospitable to the unhoused so they would go someplace else like Charlottesville. He says that puts the city in the position of possibly having more unhoused coming to Charlottesville from other counties than for which the city might not budget.
