CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The AWARE Foundation notes 10 years ago today, 56-year-old Bonnie Santiago of Staunton mysteriously went missing near Carter Mountain Orchard in Albemarle County. Her family is still seeking answers about what happened on July 12, 2014. Santiago was last seen at her boyfriend’s residence on Carter Mountain around 1:00 a.m. on July 12, 2014, and she has never been heard from since.

When her van was located a few days later, there was evidence of a violent struggle: the vehicle’s rear-view mirror had been nearly torn off, there was blood, thought to be Santiago’s, at the scene, and there were footprints on the inside of the windshield. Santiago’s belongings, including her cellular phone, eyeglasses, flip-flops, and medication, were left in the van.

Bonnie’s youngest daughter, Gabrielle Adams, said the years without her mom have been difficult, and the last time she spoke with her was the evening before she went missing. Anyone who knows anything is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 434-970-4000.
