In the aftermath of a widely criticized debate performance, President Joe Biden faces mounting pressure to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Despite calls for a new candidate, Biden has resisted these demands.
Political analyst Bob Roberts commented on the situation, saying, “I agree he still needs to step aside. The polls are not going in his favor. They’re getting weaker. Not that he’s losing votes to Trump, more and more people are saying I don’t like anybody.” Roberts highlighted the potential consequences if Biden stays in the race: “If he sticks it out, then you could theoretically get a rebellion at the convention.”
Roberts noted that Biden’s decision will likely hinge on polling data and advice from key advisors. “I think his pollsters will tell them within a week or two, either he can survive, or he can’t.” Despite the pressure, Biden remains committed to his campaign, driven by his belief in his ability to lead. As the Democratic National Convention approaches, all eyes will be on Biden’s next move.
The discussion also touched on the Republican side, with news that Nikki Haley has released her convention delegates and urged them to support Donald Trump. When asked about the possibility of Haley becoming Trump’s vice-presidential pick, Roberts was skeptical. “I don’t think Haley would bring him any more votes at all. And I don’t think he trusts Haley.”
