Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred Sept. 14, 2023, at approximately 3:35 p.m.

Two Augusta County Public Schools buses were traveling north on Route 11 when the first bus slowed for a passenger vehicle in front of it that had stopped to make a left turn. The second school bus failed to brake in time and struck the rear of the first bus.

A total of 10 student passengers between the two buses were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Two student passengers were transported to Augusta Health for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the at-fault bus was cited for following too closely.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, Augusta County Fire and Rescue and Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad assisted at the crash scene. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) assisted with traffic control at the scene.
