PALMYRA (WINA) – Lake Monticello Owners’ Association board director Don Polonis was not at last night’s special meeting revealing a vote for his ouster, but he is still on the board. State law required a majority of households eligible to vote say “yes” to remove Polonis… and out of a neighborhood record 2480 ballots cast, only 2113 wanted him removed. 291 voted “no” and 76 voted to “abstain”.
But board chair Larry Henson noted 46% homeowner participation is a record turnout, and 85% of the vote shows an admonishment of Director Polonis for 7 violations of bylaws by a director. Though state law requires a majority of those eligible to vote to say “yes” to the ouster, and this fell short, residents like Jennifer Richardson says Polonis has prompted many to become involved in the association and a number of people are thinking about running for the board when two positions open up in June. Richardson was visually emotional after the results were revealed… and while disappointed, she’s proud the vote was overwhelming.
