CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – On July 2, 2024, at approximately 10:15 PM, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Honda sedan. Charlottesville Police say the sedan disregarded the officers, made a three-point turn, and accelerated at them, striking their vehicle and a parked vehicle. Officers pursued the vehicle to the 900 block of 1st Street, where the driver, 21-year-old Alexander Turner, exited and fled on foot. Turner was apprehended in the area of Lankford Ave.
According to police, recovered from Turner’s possession were narcotics, ammunition, and an AK-47 style rifle. Turner faces charges including firearm possession by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, driving after license forfeiture, eluding police, and hit and run among others.
“The dangerous work our officers do each and every day cannot be overstated,” said Police Chief Mike Kochis. “Thankfully nobody was injured during this incident, but it is a reminder of the risks our officers take each and every day in service to our community.”
