CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville Parks & Recreation will host public input sessions to gather resident feedback on current and future recreational needs for four specific parks. These parks, identified for framework plan development, will explore potential opportunities and uses as part of the overall Parks and Recreation Master Plan. This plan will guide Charlottesville’s recreational strategy for the next decade, addressing public needs and preserving natural, cultural, and historic resources.

Public Input Sessions:

  • Court Square and Market Street Park: Monday, July 15, 6:00 PM, City Council Meeting
  • Benjamin Tonsler Park: Thursday, July 18, 6:00 PM, Benjamin Tonsler Recreation Center
  • Booker T. Washington Park: Tuesday, July 23, 6:00 PM, Carver Recreation Center

The Master Plan, initiated in November 2023, is being developed by PROS Consulting, a firm with experience in over 400 master plans across North America. Mike Svetz, former Director of Charlottesville Parks & Recreation, is the Project Manager. The plan will include community engagement, park and facility assessments, service analysis, equity mapping, capital investment recommendations, and implementation strategies. A dedicated project website features an online survey, key dates, milestones, and an interactive mapping tool for user feedback.
