CULPEPER (WINA) – The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office — with help from Town of Culpeper, Fauquier County, and State Police — responded to a domestic homicide last night in an apartment complex in the 600 block of Friendship Way in Culpeper County. Deputies responded shortly before 7pm to a call of shots fired inside one of the units.

Upon arrival, law enforcement encountered a male suspect armed with a gun on a third-floor balcony, and he ran into an apartment. Deputies tried to get to an apartment to render aid to the victim who had called 9-1-1, but the suspect reportedly fired shots at them. He barricaded himself inside the apartment, and a standoff ensued. Residents were warned to lock in place, and people kept clear of the area.

The standoff ended around 4 this morning with the suspect taken into custody, and an adult female found dead inside. No identities have been released, and the incident is still under investigation.
