CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In the wake of the College World Series, Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle shocked College Baseball fans everywhere by jumping ship across the state to take on head coaching duties with the Aggies’ chief rival, the Texas Longhorns. Previously, Schlossnagle had shut down rumors that he would leave the program after a disappointing loss in the final game at Omaha.
This development set in motion speculation as to who would be taking over the now vacant post in College Station, with several high-profile candidates tossed around in the media. Virginia Baseball fans, as of Friday morning, can breathe a sigh of relief thanks to beat writer Greg Madia, who relieved this morning on X that Cavalier head coach Brian O’Connor “never talked to the Aggies and is staying put at UVA”, according to his sources.
O’Connor signed a long-term contract extension with the Hoos in 2024, and it looks as though Texas A&M will have to continue their coaching search elsewhere.
