CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW.COM) – Albemarle County Police issued a shelter-in-place order for residents of Timberland Apartments and those within a one-mile radius on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 26. That as they searched for Dionte Tremaine Ruffin, who was considered armed and dangerous. The order was issued at approximately 3:00 p.m. and lifted some 30 minutes later, but police still had yet to find Ruffin when the order was lifted.
According to Albemarle County Police Public Information Officer, Logan Bogert, the search began after a 911 call from a domestic incident in progress that involved a weapon.
Ruffin, 23, is also still wanted for an alleged May 9, 2023, threat to a student at Buford Middle School that led to a lockdown. When the Charlottesville Police Department learned of connections between Ruffin and the Buford student’s mother, modified lockdowns went into effect at Greenbrier Elementary School and Charlottesville High School, where the mother also had students. Ruffin is also wanted by the Virginia Department of Corrections for violating his supervised probation.

Residents of Timberland Apartments and those within a 1-mile radius of this location are asked to shelter in place until further notice. All others are asked to avoid the area. ACPD is asking the community to be on the lookout for the suspect pictured. The suspect, 23-year-old Dionte Ruffin, is described as a black male wearing blue jeans. Ruffin possibly fled the area in a black Nissan pickup truck. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Do not approach the suspect if seen. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
