CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Though the John McGuire campaign claims the 5th District Congressional election numbers are “certified” in the 5th District, the Virginia Department of Elections website says actual certification has not occurred until the July 2nd State Board of Elections meeting to do so. Localities certify local elections, but any elections that involve separate jurisdictions — such as 5th Congressional District cities and counties — are certified by the state board. This as the 5th District Republican primary count Tuesday afternoon has McGuire with a lead that was 308 at the end of the day last week up to 371 now. More importantly, the percentage is right now point-6-percent… which is beyond the half-percent that would by law necessitate a state-paid recount.

If the percentage stays where it is right now, Bob Good could ask for a recount, but his campaign would have to pay for it. And Good does dispute results in Lynchburg due to an issue with a ballot box in that jurisdiction.
