It is with regret that I inform the public that on August 10, 2023, Erik K. Frazier, an individual in custody of the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail, passed away.  Information obtained as of this release indicates Mr. Frazier died by suicide.

Information released to the public is done once we have confirmed that family notifications have been completed.

This is the second death of an individual in the custody of this facility in one week. Our internal investigation has indicated there are no systemic issues related to these two deaths.  Both deaths are tragic for the families and our staff.

Both deaths are being investigated internally, the Albemarle County Police Department and by the Department of Corrections, Board of Local and Regional Jails as is standard procedure for any death in custody.

Out of respect for Mr. Frazier’s family we will not be releasing any further details or conducting interviews.
