CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville Police make another illegal firearms arrest within 24 hours of one made Wednesday night. Whereas the Wednesday night arrest was 1st Street South, the Thursday arrest of Richard Sanders happened at Tonsler Park among children and spectators attempting to enjoy a basketball game. Sanders was taken into custody with incident and a search of his person revealed two concealed firearms… one a handgun with an extended magazine, and with a device that enabled it to be fired in a fully automatic mode. The other was an AK-style firearm with a 30-round magazine.
He’s charged with possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a machine gun, and possession of a firearm in a city park. Police say the investigation — part of an ongoing operation into recent gun violence in the city — is ongoing and further charges are pending.
